Beaujolais calls...

Beaujolais CallsAfter a relaxed start, the second day of the fun navigational trial headed out.

As it was a day of festivities in Beaujolais, it was fancy dress to the fore today with the theme 'gold' reflecting the 'Runs Golden Anniversary.

Cris-crossing the 'cru' villages of the region there was no doubt the 'Run was on its home ground. People in villages smiling and waving as the cars sought the shortest distance from point to point.

A relaxed lunch was had outside Belleville, and then the cars headed to the Chateau De Vaux, the home of Beaujolais star winemaker Yannick de Vermont. His Beaujolais Nouveau Villages had been selected as the 'Runs favoured bottle due to its ageing potential. Drink now as Nouveau, or age on for it to become a soft voluptuous 'Beaujolais Villages' the choice was the 'Runners.

In a twist loved by all the 'Runners for 2021, they dined this evening in the very room that Freud and Berkmann dreamt up the 'Runs first challenge in 1970. 50 years later in the exact location where our history started, a glass was raised to Joseph Berkmann who lives in retirement at the age of 93 in the South of France.

It was off then to join the mayor for fireworks and at midnight celebrate the new vintages release. 'Runners had already been allowed to sample it earlier that afternoon under special legal dispensation form the Beaujolais Region.

It was many happy faces and sleepy heads that headed back to their Spa Hotel tonight.
